🔆 South Africa shines in 5th place among the sunniest countries in the world! While it's great for sunbathing, at ENGIE, we clearly see another benefit! 💡 In 2023, we invested in this potential by acquiring 3 new solar power plants in the Northern Cape region, with an impressive photovoltaic capacity of 190 MW. Enough to power electricity to several tens of thousands households! 🏠 #WithENGIE ENGIE Africa

💧 Wetlands are vital ecosystems, acting as natural sponges, water purifiers, and biodiversity havens. At ENGIE, we prioritize wetland preservation across all projects. When preservation isn't feasible, we implement ARC measures: Avoid, Reduce, Compensate. 📍 For instance, at our Lavernat wind farm (Sarthe), we restored two hectares of land in a neighboring commune, including a wet meadow, a pond, and numerous trees. How do European citizens perceive the energy transition? Do recent debates about climate scepticism and climate relativism reflect reality on the ground? On this #EuropeDay, delve into the findings of our survey conducted in partnership with the Fondation Jean-Jaurès. This study aims to shed light on the current landscape, share our convictions and formulate recommendations for European decision-makers. Our aim? To achieve an energy transition that is both accessible and desirable for all. More information 👇  https://lnkd.in/d6-ZJuNz

🌞Solar panels are sun-stoppable! On this #InternationalSunDay, we'd like to shed light on the sustainability of solar power — which is in and of itself a sustainable energy source. With an average lifespan of 30 years, solar panels undergo decommissioning and recycling processes. In France alone, tens of thousands of faulty panels undergo recycling every year. According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), this trend is projected to result in 6 million tons of waste across Europe by 2040. Instead of systematically recycling solar panels, what if we developed innovative techniques to repair them and extend their lifecycle? This premise is at the heart of our partnership with SOLREED and the Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives. Convinced that half of the solar panels currently being recycled could be repaired, SOLREED has developed a new repair process to minimize the environmental impact of solar installations. Fully embracing this vision, ENGIE GREEN is committed to enhancing the sustainability of its installations under its TED (Sustainable Energy Transition) label. To support SOLREED, ENGIE Green initially supplied hundreds of defective panels to SOLREED, enabling them to analyze the root causes of failures. ENGIE GREEN's industrial expertise bolsters this endeavor, validating the project and its potential applications. Let's continue to harness solar power — sustainably! ☀️ #WithENGIE

Accelerating the development of #OffshoreWind power is a major commitment for ENGIE. For this reason, I am particularly pleased to have celebrated today in Saint-Nazaire, alongside ministers Bruno Le Maire and Roland Lescure, the sailing away of the electrical substation for our offshore wind farm of Iles d'Yeu and Noirmoutier, a project supported by our OW Ocean Winds JV. This is an important milestone in the construction of this 500 MW project which, once commissioned next year, will supply 800,000 people with renewable electricity. This commissioning will be quickly followed by that of our Dieppe and Le Tréport wind farm, whose substation is already under construction here at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique. By mobilizing 250 companies based in France (including Réseau de Transport d'Électricité, Siemens Gamesa, Defontaine Rollix and numerous SMEs), as well as the ports of Saint Nazaire and Le Havre, this project is concrete proof of the economic and employment benefits generated by #RenewableEnergies, which also contribute to our country's energy sovereignty. Thanks to its coastline, #France has exceptional potential for offshore wind power. I welcome the Gouvernement's ambition to achieve 45 GW of offshore wind power in France by 2050, and the announcement of shorter development timescales and a clear calendar. This will not only enable us to look ahead, but also give all players in the industry the visibility they need to get organized. ENGIE's ambitions in offshore wind power are also illustrated by today's win of a tender to develop a 1.3 GW project off the coast of Australia, in the state of Victoria. The wind farm's electricity production will be equivalent to the consumption of one million homes. Thanks to the expertise of its teams, our OW Ocean Winds joint venture now has a portfolio of 18 GW of projects in operation, construction and development.  👏🏼 Congratulations to all the teams involved in these projects, in France, Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom and South Korea.
